Best travel time
From May to the end of October, France is an ideal destination for your surfing holiday. In the summer months, between June and the end of August, the southern French climate creates a great mix of sunny, hot temperatures during the day and milder, more refreshing temperatures at night. May, September and October are a little cooler than midsummer, but these months offer empty beaches, waves and good swells. The very mild winters and the long, warm summers already show a subtropical-Mediterranean influence. Between June and August there is an average of nine to eleven hours of sunshine a day.
Air & water temperature
The air temperature on the west coast of France is between 23 and 27 degrees in the summer months and the water temperature is a comfortable 21 and 24 degrees.
Wetsuit
Due to the changing influence of the Gulf Stream, which can also cool you down, it is advisable to wear a wetsuit on your surfing holiday. In principle, it is advisable to put on a wetsuit with a thickness of 2/2 mm or 3/2 mm. Of course, the surf guides at our surf camps in France know best which neoprene to wear and will be happy to advise you. On particularly hot days you can even surf in a bikini or board shorts on the west coast of France, but you'd better put on a lycra to protect yourself from sunburn and abrasions.
Not only French, but also many German-speaking surfers are attracted to the Atlantic coast for surfing, because from May to October France is a great place to ride waves and learn to surf. Here are some of the surf spots on the southwest coast of France:
Moliets Plage
The beach break at Moliets Plage is ideal for learning to surf! The 24+ Surf Camp Moliets is also located there. In the white water you will learn the take off and the basics before heading into the green waves. The sandbars do move, but once laid they can create nice little barrels.
Seignosse & Hossegor
with plenty of amazing surf spots around and right next to Hossegor it is called the magic triangle! Here are some of the best waves in France and it is no wonder that most pro Surfers do live and surf right here. Therefore we also do have the Surf Camp Seignosse and the Premium Surf Lodge France exactly in this area. One of the most iconic Surf Contest is held in Hossegor every year. The Quik Pro France. The surf level in the Area is mind blowing and just fun to watch.
Le Penon
The popular stretch of beach Le Penon lies at the north end of Hossegor and offers epic left and right waves for surfing in France. Even if the swell isn't right, you can rely on the sandbars in Le Penon, which still produce left and right waves. The beach break can be divided into various sections and offers something for every surfing level. This surf spot works best at low and mid tide.
Beside surfing the wide beaches, that are interrupted through little stone piers, are just amazing and invite to stroll and sunbath. Throughout the villages there are many nice bars, shops, cafes and little clubs to discover. You can cruise along the coast easily by bike or with a longboard skateboard. Between the village of Capbreton and Hossegor floats the river Boudigau. There's a nice little harbour within as well. In the south of Capbreton you will already find the beautiful town of Biarritz where surfing started within Europe.
Biarritz
Côte Des Basque The surf spot Côte Des Basques in Biarritz is the birthplace of surfing in France. More than 50 years ago, Europe's first surfing scene emerged here. The wave at the upper, northern end of the wide bay, which is protected from the north wind, is particularly popular with longboarders. One peak is just off the channel under the waterfront and another just a few paddle strokes south. However, the elongated beach break offers plenty more left and right waves, so that everyone can surf here even in summer. In summer and with less swell, this well-known surf spot is ideal for beginners. Grande Plage The surf spot Grand Plage is the city break of the cultural city of Biarritz and is lively at any time of the day due to its central location. The beach is characterized by its south-facing, imposing rocks, which not only characterize it visually, but also ensure that good sandbanks are formed here and there is wind protection from the south/southeast. This beach break, which has right and left waves, is best surfed at low and mid tide. A special feature of the Grand Plage is the nocturnal lighting that extends from the promenade to the sea. It's not as bright as day in the water, but one or the other night session is definitely possible.

Arrival by bus (Moliets & Seignosse)
Traveling by coach is already included in the price at the 24+ Surf Camp Moliets and at the Surf Camp Seignosse in the high season. Together with our bus company, we drive to many different cities in Germany and Switzerland.
train arrival
If you choose the train, please make sure to book early, because you absolutely need a reservation for the trip to Dax.
car arrival
The journey takes about 14 hours from southern Germany (pure driving time without breaks). Tolls are payable on the French motorways. It is advisable to start the journey together with friends or to offer a ride.
flight arrival
The requirements of individual airlines often differ from those of the state and must therefore be obtained from the airline itself. The nearest airports to our surf camps in France are Bordeaux (BOD) and Biarritz (BIQ). If you fly to France with your surfboard to surf, you should pay attention to the individual surfboard baggage fees and regulations. With Easyjet, you can take your board with you there and back for 100 euros (around 50 euros per leg), with a maximum weight of 32 kg. Ryanair not only offers cheap flights, but also the transport of standard board bags. For the transport of large sports luggage, you have to calculate 50 euros for the return flight, with a maximum weight of 20 kg. With Eurowings you can take your surfboard with you on short and medium-haul flights for the price of 50 euros per leg and for 100 euros per leg on long-haul flights.

Surf Camp Seignosse
The Surf Camp Seignosse is located directly on the beach and is run in a hostel style. The house is detached with a large garden and its own café on the ground floor. The surf spot "Estagnots" is located directly below the "Plage des Bourdaines" and above Hossegor with its world-famous waves "La Graviere" and "La Nord".
Many well-known European surfers live in this area and international surfing pros often visit the French surfing Mecca. The waves break over the sandy beach, which is why the spots are also great for beginners.
Yoga is included 3 times a week and is practiced in your own garden, in the pine forest directly behind the house or on the beach, which is actually right in front of the house. In the residential area around Estagnots there are a lot of cool scene bars, which also host extremely good parties in summer.
In addition to the beautiful property, the surf house includes a well-equipped studio kitchen, a cozy living room, 2 shared rooms and 3 double rooms. We are particularly proud of our new camping lodges at our Family Surf Camp Biscarrosse. Here you live in a large tent with separate bedrooms, so that the parents can enjoy some togetherness on vacation. The new surf camp in Biscarrosse is located in the middle of an idyllic pine forest and, with only 10 residential units, offers a very family atmosphere for all members.
We work with highly trained surf instructors who will look after you or your children during surfing lessons and provide high-quality surfing equipment. With us you can choose whether you want to take the surf courses with the whole family or whether the children should take the surf courses separately from their parents.
In the cozy surf camp we have a kids playground where we have prepared a lot of handicraft equipment, children's books and other toys for the little ones.
