Air & water temperature
The air temperature is influenced by the Atlantic, so winters are not very cold and summers are not too hot. Then you can assume around 30°C, while it can sometimes be 10°C cool in the winter months. On average, the water temperature is about 20°C.
Wetsuit
Even with relatively warm water temperatures, it is advisable to wear a wetsuit, because the difference between water and body temperature is definitely not insignificant and can easily lead to cooling down during longer surfing sessions. Basically, it is recommended to wear a wetsuit with a thickness of 4/3 mm, 3/2 mm or a shorty on hot days. The wetsuit is included in our surf courses.

Northern Spain with its mixture of fascinating landscape and lonely surf spots is an insider tip among surfers. On the rugged coast, with its numerous small bays, there is a place to surf for beginners as well as for advanced surfers in almost all wave conditions. The coasts in Spain offer excellent conditions for surfing all year round. Some great surf spots are in the north around Zarautz and Galicia. Most surf spots in these regions are beach breaks, but there are also reef breaks. Some of the best waves are in September, so it's worth heading to one of our surf camps in Spain in the fall.

Zarautz
A very consistent, high quality beach break! Zarautz doesn't need a lot of swell to run. The long beach break has several peaks where surfers cavort and provides waves for all surfing levels.
Playa de Somo
A long sandy beach is Playa de Somo, which is sheltered in a large bay near the city of Santander. The waves have a lot of potential for good surf sessions and attract not only beginners but also advanced surfers. This beach break runs at any tide and produces nice right and left waves on north and northwest swell.
Caballos
Between the village of Cuchia and the Ria de Sudances lies Caballos. This very beautiful and quiet beach is located below a steep cliff. The very powerful, left-breaking wave runs over rocky ground (reef break) and offers top waves for advanced surfers. Northwest swell creates reef-rocky waves to the left and right.
Los Locos
Los Locos is located near Torrelavega and is one of the best beach breaks in Europe. With north-east swell you have good conditions here to catch right and left waves. The surf spot runs at all tides and is also ideal for beginners.
Playa de Sonabia
With strong west to north-west winds, Playa de Oriñon, which lies in a small bay between Loredo and Castro-Urdiales, also offers left and right waves. The beach break is a good option when the swell is too big. The best time to get in the water is at mid-tide.
Pantin
One of the most famous surf spots in northern Spain is Pantin, a very good and constant beach break with various peaks. In summer you will always find surfable waves for both beginners and advanced surfers. This beach break produces left and right waves at all tides. Once a year, the "Pantin Classics", a well-known surfing contest, take place here.
Playa de Frouxeira
The Playa de Frouxeira in the Bay of Valdoviño has a 4 km long sandy beach with very nice left and right waves for surfing. This beach break is not only popular with surfers but also with windsurfers. Due to its location to the north and northwest, this surf spot always gets a lot of swell and runs optimally at all tides.
Campelo
Campelo, a crescent-shaped bay protected by rocks, often offers very clean left and right waves for surfing due to its sheltered location. This beach break is ideal for beginners and intermediate surfers and runs on all tides.
Doninos
One of the most beautiful beaches in Galicia is Doniños, also called Outeiro, near Ferroll and Coruña. This beach break has constant left and right waves, attracting both beginners and advanced surfers. The best wave conditions are Northwest, West and Southwest swell, which can be surfed at any tide.

Don'ts
In Spain, men and women do not greet each other with a handshake, but with kisses left and right. Therefore, do not regard it as intrusive, but as a common greeting.
Spaniards tend to be morning grouches, but after their siesta they wake up late into the night. It can sometimes happen that it gets louder at night. But anyone who complains gets little understanding. Therefore, you should come to terms with it and just take part.
The Spanish people eat much later than us northern Europeans. Afternoon lunch is around 2 p.m. and dinner from 10 p.m., you should consider these times to get space and hot dishes in a restaurant.
Many Spaniards smoke and do not allow themselves to be banned, which is why there are no smoke-free zones in many bars, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. If you value it, it's better to ask beforehand.
