Buddhist temple
In Unawatuna you can visit a Buddhist temple, the Japanese Temple of Peace. The white roof stretches towards the sky and shines against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean and blue sky. From the Surf & Yoga Sri Lanka is only a short walk to the temple complex, which is worth seeing simply because of its location directly on the coast.
Beach bar at Jungle Beach
Also just a walk away from the surf camp and not far from the Temple of Peace is a beach bar that is worth a detour. The small bay at Jungle Beach faces Galle and offers a beautiful view of the old capital of Sri Lanka.

Nice waves at the home spot
Unawatuna Beach
This point break produces nice right hand waves that break over reef and rock. On a good day, this wave can run up to 400 m. The wave quality here is rather average, but there is no localism and fewer surfers in the waves.
Dewatta Beach
Just 10 minutes north of Unawatuna is the beach break Dewatta Beach, which is very suitable for beginners. But even advanced surfers can have fun here with bigger swells - then this spot offers nice long right and left waves.
Kabalana
This A-frame break in Ahangama works as good as ever. Unfortunately, for the same reason, it is often overcrowded. Kabalana breaks on the right side of the beach. Entry is over sand, but the wave finishes over a reef. The right is steeper and short while the left is probably one of the best on the coast. Further to the left on the beach you can also practice as a beginner.
Ahangama Fishticks
This A-frame has enough space between the reef and the water surface at mid to high tide, so that even advanced surfers can have fun.
Weligama
The perfect beginner, advanced and longboarder beach break! Long waves that break nicely, no rocks and no currents. With a bit of luck and skill, it is possible to catch 400 m long solid waves here. There are many right and left waves here. This spot works best in a southwest swell. The waves here are easily surfable even at small sizes and last up to 5 feet. When the other spots in the region are gone, there is a good chance of good waves in Weligama, which is sheltered from the wind.
Rams
Midigama is home to the area's most famous spot: Rams. Short and with little room to the reef, this right-hander barrels. Only suitable for good surfers!
Lazy Left
Also in Midigama you'll find Lazy Left - a long, gentle wave that's relatively easy to paddle out to. As the size increases, this wave just keeps getting better. Perfect for getting your first reef break experience! Suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Plantations
Located in Midigama, this reef break offers great waves for intermediate and advanced surfers and breaks at all tides. Most of the time the waves break to the right here, but sometimes there are also left waves depending on the swell and the sand that is washed onto the reefs. Best in the morning with the early off-shore. Usually there are no crowds here. The break runs from 2 feet and can hold quite a bit of size.
Coconuts
In Midigama, right next to Plantations, Coconuts breaks. A fast, steep left wave. Here you have to get out fast enough before the wave breaks onto the exposed reef. Not many people surf here as the spot is not visible from the street. Just get in the water at Plantations and paddle to the Peak of Coconuts.
Mirissa
The trendy surfer town with many beach bars and clubs is a little busier today than it was in the old hippie days. At the right end of the bay, a right-hand wave breaks over a reef when the swell is bigger. The wave is more suitable for advanced surfers and longboarders. No waves break on the beach itself.
